SOUNDSELEKTION. Reduktion und Nuance als ästhetische Phänomene

In the more recent Viennese architectural history, the Loos-House at the Michaelerplatz is of particular interest. Its determined renunciation from Historicism and Secessionism is an early example for radical reduction - no decor, no embellishments. The architect Adolf Loos even wrote a polemic pamphlet in 1908 with the programmatic title 'Ornament und Verbrechen'.

In this seminar, the participants like to analyse with which   t o n a l   means the Loos-House can be equipped; this should not mean visual, but auditive ornaments. Are these sounding ornaments, 110 years later, in the sense of Adolf Loos still "crimes" nowadays? This will be discussed in the seminar. With the aesthetic repertoire of sound art, the participants should react to the exterior and / or the interior of the Loos-House, and try to find realisable solutions.

A compact overview of sound art, the different artistic approaches and their methods with a focus on reduction and nuance, as well as a short introduction to studio technology will be preceding any practical work.Knowledge of electronic sound design and editing at the computer is desired, but not obligatory necessary.
